“What happened is a complete secret, so, naturally the whole school knows.”
In 2007, after the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, author J.K. Rowling told the world that she considers Albus Dumbledore to be canonically gay. This statement seemed to displease everyone. The conservative Christian community disliked the idea that the nearly spotless books and films were now questionable material, while the LGBT community felt they were robbed of the dignity of making the beloved character gay in print.
As far as uninformed readers were concerned Albus Dumbledore was just an old man in a funny robe... until now.
After years of staying in the closet Albus Dumbledore finally has his sexual preferences made clear in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.
During the film it is revealed that Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald were once young lovers and while they were together they entered into some kind of magical pact that prevents them from engaging in direct combat. [NOTE: It does make you wonder what kind of relationship requires that kind of pre-nuptial agreement, but I digress.]
Jude Law is the third actor to play Dumbledore, with Mad Mikkelson being the fifth actor to play Grindelwald. With a budget of $185 million, this is most likely the largest theatrical release to have both the title hero and the main villain be openly gay.
